If we’ve learned anything from Silva’s legendary career, it’s that while greatness is fine and all, it’s nothing compared to perfection.

On paper the Brazilian may be approaching the twilight of his career and lined up against a legitimate undefeated threat in Weidman, but in reality it’s not hard to see why the sportsbook gives Silva the moneyline advantage.

By betting on UFC 162 this weekend, fans are essentially making the statement that the aging strike-artist has enough left in the tank to keep the 9-0, wrestling-dependent Weidman at bay. As the +200 underdog, Weidman will take to the octagon hungry to prove that he’s more than a simple stepping stone on Silva’s road to history.

It’s Silva first fight as a middleweight since July, 2012 – though in October he made short work of Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153. That means Silva will be looking to successfully complete his 11th defense of the title he won back in 2006 against Rich Franklin.
