San Antonio Spurs @ Los Angeles Lakers (Game 3) – Friday April 26, 2013 10:30 PM EST
The online betting websites have been in a fervor all season trying to keep up with the Los Angeles Lakers. The strange thing is that it has had very little to do with the Lakers winning ball games. At first it was outward concern as to how poorly the team was playing when the season started. Then the team fired Mike Brown, which triggered the Phil Jackson/Mike D’Antoni circus. Then Kobe Bryant started to publicly call out Dwight Howard. The whole thing was a mess, but the mess has finally washed up on the shores of the playoffs and the Lakers are trying to make the most of the opportunity they have.
The San Antonio Spurs have been cold and calculating all season long. The sports betting experts watched as the Spurs would sit their star players to preserve them for the playoffs, and this was happening before the All-Star break. After a fine from the NBA for sitting starters so early in the season, the Spurs would send their starters out for five minutes and sit them. San Antonio is going to do things the San Antonio way, and that way could very well bring the team a championship this season.
Los Angeles Lakers
By now, every online betting enthusiast knows that the Lakers will take the floor in this game without Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash. If Dwight Howard ever wanted to show that he was the man to lead Los Angeles into the future, then this is his big chance. Kobe Bryant has put the team on his back more than once and vaulted the team into a higher level. Now Howard needs to show that the Lakers will be in good hands when Kobe Bryant does decide to retire at some point in the next couple of seasons.
San Antonio Spurs
One of the things that the sportsbook experts respect about the Spurs is that it is a team of superstars that plays as a team. Each night, someone new will step forward to lead the team to victory. Lately, it has been Manu Ginobli who has been pulling the Spurs to success. It could be Tony Parker in this game or it could be Tim Duncan. The thing about the Spurs is that you just never know.
The Bottom Line
There is a lot of speculation that the Lakers could sneak up and win this game. The problem is that all of the weapons that the Lakers would need to pull off that kind of upset will be in street clothes on the bench. The Lakers are a game team, but Dwight Howard has not shown that he has anywhere near the ability or determination necessary to rise up and help carry this team to victory. Without that, the Lakers are dead in the water.
