The Eastern Conference final has not played out how anyone expected. The Pittsburgh Penguins, who were the Stanley Cup favorites at 7/2 at the beginning of the round, now find themselves in a 0-3 hole facing elimination on Friday night. They’ve got a long way to go if they’re to win this series and it starts by surviving Game 4.
Although many of the stats will point in Pittsburgh’s favor, you can throw them out as they haven’t applied in this series. The Pens were supposed to dominate on the strength of an offense that had scored 47 goals in their first 11 playoff games. However, that offense has been nowhere to be found in the Eastern Conference final. The Pens have scored just two times in three games and Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask has stopped 108 of 110 shots.
The good news for Pittsburgh is that they tend to play well in Boston. Although they lost Game 3, they had won each of their last five trips. They’ll have to overcome the odds as the Bruins are 11-3 this season when playing at home with a total of 5.5, and are favored on the moneyline for Game 4.
