New Jersey Online Gaming Bill Meets Resistance

The Legislation that would give Atlantic City casinos the ability to offer Internet gaming services within the state of New Jersey, S490, has met an unexpected hurdle.

In what might be considered to be approaching the epitome of stupidity, the very Atlantic City casinos that would benefit most if the legislation were to be passed, through their trade organization known as the Casino Association of New Jersey, have asked the Legislative Committee to vote against the new legislation, or at the very least hold no vote.

Instead of supporting the state's reserved right to legislate on its own behalf regarding gambling matters, their letter deferred to the U.S. Federal Government's efforts to legislate and indicated that legislation should come first at the federal level.

This gives California a fighting chance at passing gambling legislation before New Jersey, and if that happens, once Federal legislation does come, California's online gaming operators would have a leg up on Atlantic City casinos by already being positioned in the online gaming marketplace.
