The Financial Times has recently reported that Full Tilt Poker is now the subject of a probe on the part of a Federal Grand Jury in New York City, along with prominent poker professionals Howard Lederer and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson who are rumored to have a stake in the company.
The charges being promulgated are for money laundering. This was a strategic decision that is meant to allow US authorities to gain regulatory pull in jurisdictions where online gambling is not illegal -- because money laundering will still be considered a crime in those jurisdictions and will be subject to applicable bilateral treaties.
As reported on in previous Wheretobet.com news Telegrams, Full Tilt has struggled over the past year and a half having US facing payment processors attacked by regulators and eventually shut down. This investigation by the grand jury could spell more trouble ahead for this online poker giant.
