In what amounts to a very big step forward towards online gaming regulation in the USA, on Monday 22 November 2010, the New Jersey Senate voted 29-5 in favor of online gambling legislation that would allow both New Jersey residents as well as non-USA residents to place bets online with licensed casinos in New Jersey. Residents of the other 49 US States will not be allowed access.
Licensees must be legitimate Atlantic City operators.
The bill was authored by New Jersey Senator Raymond Lesniak, and places a 15% tax on gross gaming revenues.
All that remains is for the New Jersey State Assembly to pass the bill, and for it to be signed into law by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
