In a rematch of last spring’s Western Conference semifinal, the San Antonio Spurs will take on the Golden State Warriors this Friday. Can Tim Duncan and company prove yet again that the veterans aren’t going anywhere any time soon? According to the NBA odds, it’s not that simple.
While the Spurs no doubt prevailed last postseason, eventually qualifying for but losing in the Finals, the forecast has changed for the 2013-14 season. In addition to the Spurs growing one year older, the upstart Bay Area Warriors have had another year to gel after breaking onto the scene as a surprise contender in 2012-13.
According to oddsmakers, each sit tied on the basketball futures with 12/1 odds of winning the NBA championship.
Did we see San Antonio’s window close with that tragic Game 6 loss to the Miami Heat last June? It’s safe to say the youngsters in Golden State won’t be regressing on account of creaky knees or old bones any time soon.
But while it seems so obvious that these clubs are trending in opposite directions, the same could have been said about them last year as well, prior to the Spurs victory when the two met in the playoffs.
Games like this Friday’s will serve as an indicator of what the NBA betting community can expect this season.
