The Memphis Grizzlies exacted their revenge against the Los Angeles Clippers last week, coming back from two losses in their Western Conference quarterfinal series to win it in six. The victory comes on the heels of a first-round loss to that same Clippers team back in 2012. With the NBA odds against them in Round 2, can they strike again?
While it may appear that the Grizz are overmatched in this round as well against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the developing theme of their postseason has been one of redemption. If Memphis’ victory over L.A. was revenge for their 2012 exit, then a win over a Russell Westbrook-less Thunder squad could be redemption for their 2011 exit at the hands of OKC.
With 16/1 odds on the NBA futures, the Grizzlies aren’t exactly favorites to win the championship, but they’ve done nothing but overachieve for the past four seasons. Perhaps it’s time we give them their due respect.
That may not be what Oklahoma City wants to hear, as they have to be at least a little bit nervous heading into the best-of-seven series, but it’s what makes betting on the NBA so fascinating.
