Craps Rules: Learn How to Play the Dice

crapsDice is one of the oldest things that were used to set off a game of chance. Ancient Egyptians used the oldest known dice in games. These items were called “Theban dice” that serve as a testament to how old this kind of game is. From this ancient game, craps was born and is still enjoyed now by millions of people.

While the game of carps is entertaining and fun, a new player may be confused by it. Craps rules are a bit hard to learn but once you get the hang of it, you are sure to fall in love with this game. First, you have to understand that this game can get crazy especially since there can be a dozen players in the game. If you are ready to shout and scream for the win, then this is your game of choice especially when you are in a casino. It is not that the rules are hard. Perhaps what can intimidate the new player is that people around a craps table usually are wild with excitement.

The first thing you do in craps is make a bet along the pass line. The pass line runs along the craps table. In this game, you are playing against the house or the casino. When the dice is first thrown, this is known as the come out roll that is made by the first player’s throw. The first player who throws the dice is called the shooter and he or she bets on the pass line or the do not pass line. Then, players take turns as the shooter according to their position on the table: the one on the right of the first shooter gets to be the one to roll the dice next. A player has the option of refusing to be the shooter but he or she can still place bets on the line.

If the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12, then he or she craps out and the players on with bets on the pass line lose their bets while those on the other line win. However, if the roll turns up a 7 or 11, it is a natural roll where those who made bets on the pass line win. Then, if the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 are rolled, the come out is done and dealers point numbers to players. In actual casinos, four people help manage the table. These include the box man who keeps tracks of players in the game, the base dealers who collect the bets and the stickman. All of them have separate functions that aim to make the game flow on smoothly and without cheats.

While this game is a bit old, it still excites and thrills people, both players and participants. Craps is a game of pure luck and nothing else. Perhaps that makes the game such a joy to play and watch: you never know your chances of winning and subject yourself to the whims of Lady Luck. While you may know the old adage that the house always wins, it sure is fun to try to beat it. After all, if you are getting some cash along with the satisfaction of a win, the game of craps might be something you should try.
