Bingo Terminology for the Newbie There are lots of different terms and expressions you have to keep track of when you play Internet Bingo. These are the most important ones.

Admission Packet – the fewest cards that you have to buy as the price of admission. An Admission packet normally contains three to six cards per game.

After Game (also called late bird) – a game played when the regular Bingo session is finished.

At the beginning – Bingo terminology for 1.

Auto-purchase – when the software automatically buys cards for you at the beginning of a game.

Basket Bingo – in this type of Bingo “basket prizes” are given.

Bingo Board – an electronic display board. Each number is shown on the Bingo board as they are called.

Bingo card – A card used to play Bingo. A Bingo card contains 24 spaces with numbers and one blank space. Each Bingo card is unique.

Blackout (also called coverall) – a specified Bingo pattern. The entire Bingo card must be marked in order to win.

Buy-in – when you buy Bingo cards you make your buy-in to the game.

Caller – The person calling out the numbers as the Bingo balls are being drawn.

Cash-In-Pri ze – a Bingo game with a cash prize.

Catch-up (an online Bingo feature) – the numbers on your cards are marked automatically as they are called.

Consolation Prize – an extra prize given if no one has won after a certain amount of calls.

Coverall (also called blackout) – a specific Bingo pattern. The entire Bingo card must be marked in order to win.

Early bird game – the opening game of a session. Sometimes it’s seen as a “warm-up” game.

Face – an individual bingo sheet. It contains the 24 numbers and has a blank space in the center.

Four corners – on this Bingo pattern, you win if you cover all the corner numbers of a card.

Free space – The center square of a Bingo card. It does not have a number assigned to it. Comparable to a Joker or Wild Square.

Game board – This electronic display board shows the pattern that is needed to win in a particular game.

Game Room – In online Bingo games the players sometimes are placed in different game rooms.

Hardway Bingo – straight line Bingo. Usually played without the use of a free space.

Inlaid Card – a pre-printed Bingo card in 4x4 format. Black discs are used to cover the numbers when called out.

Instant Bingo – a break open ticket that contains the word B I N G O, card faces and numbers.

Jackpot – When you complete a difficult pattern within a specified number of balls you win a big prize, the jackpot.

Late Bird (also called after game) – a game played when the regular Bingo session is finished.

Main Stage Bingo – the event in a Bingo session that normally draws the most players.

Minimum-B uy-In – The minimum amount of money you have to pay to be eligible for winning prizes in a Bingo game.

Money Ball – a pre-drawn number. If a player hits Bingo on a money ball his or hers winnings will be doubled.

Multiple Winners – If two or more players call Bingo at the same time the prize money is divided between them.

No Number – in this type of Bingo the numbers are drawn and called until only one game card remains completely unmarked. The person with the unmarked card wins the game.

On – when a player has one or more cards that lacks only one number for a bingo that player is “on”.

On the way – this is the game played previous to the blackout on the same card.

Pattern – The shape you have to cover on the card to make a Bingo. The Bingo pattern can be a straight line, horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.

Parti – This is a type of slot or cash bingo where the prize is cash and depends on the number of players in the game. Parti is short for “Participation Bingo”.

Postage Stamp Pattern – A specific Bingo pattern where you match four numbers in the form of a postage stamp in the one of the four corners of the Bingo card.

Progressive Jackpot – A jackpot that keeps getting bigger until somebody wins it. Normally there is a separate buy-in for Bingo games with progressive jackpots.

Quickie – In this type of Bingo the numbers are announced as quickly as possible. The cards must be full to win.

RNG – short for Random Number Generator. This machine automatically picks the numbers for a game. Used in Internet Bingo.

Six-pack - six numbers in a block on a single card.

Speed Bingo – In this kind of Bingo the numbers are called rapidly. You can win in as few as three numbers.

Split Pot – a Bingo game in which the winning player splits the sales of the game with the house (Bingo hall).

Texas Blackout – this is a special kind of Bingo. If the first number called is even all the even numbers the card are wild. If the first called number is odd all the odd numbers can be covered. The game continues as a blackout (coverall).

Wait – A number a player needs to complete a pattern and make a Bingo.

Wrap up – The final game of a Bingo session.

Wild Number - Normally played on a double bingo that leads into a triple bingo. The first number called determines the wild number. For example, if number 42 is drawn first, all numbers ending in 2 should be marked off.
