Is the UK about to go down the same road as the US?

It remains to be seen just how damaging to non-European Union online gambling websites the UK’s announced plan to crack down on gambling advertising will be. The ban applies to all those online gambling websites operating from outside of the EU.
There are some pretty big names out there offering online bingo who operate from jurisdictions outside of the government’s ‘white list’ of acceptable non-EU jurisdictions. At this time only the Isle of Man and Alderney meet ‘white list’ approval.
For the UK online bingo community, this may mean a reduction in the amount of online bingo options available and it may see a reduction in online bingo halls which fail to survive the ban on advertising being enforced by the UK government.
At this time I hesitate to compare the UK government’s action as the think end of the wedge in a US-style attack on foreign online gambling competition. However, one wonders how Antigua will respond to the ban as it currently operates about 530 plus online gambling websites and has shown it’s not afraid to take on the big boys of world trade when it comes to looking after its own.
